Driving Towards Independence

At The Wee Red Car, we understand that every individual has unique needs, especially when it comes to driving. Our tailored driver training programmes are designed for those with disabilities, particularly individuals experiencing lower limb paralysis or hand or leg weakness. We are committed to empowering you with the skills and confidence to get or to reclaim your independence behind the wheel.

Your Needs at the Heart of Training

Our experienced instructor will take the time to evaluate each student’s specific requirements. They have also completed additional training on how to best help people with both SEND and physical disabilities. By creating a personalised training plan that addresses your abilities and challenges, we ensure that every lesson is focused on your individual journey. This client centred approach fosters an inclusive and supportive atmosphere conducive to learning.

Support from Experienced Instructors

Our instructors are not only highly skilled but also sensitive to the emotional and physical aspects of learning to drive with a disability. Supporting additional breaks to allow the head to reset if needed or to allow stretching limbs that are being put under additional and new strains. We offer extensive support, encouragement, and practical advice, helping students navigate road challenges and master the control of adapted vehicles, ensuring a smooth transition into independent driving. This includes the use of Mindfulness if appropriate.

A Commitment to Accessibility

Accessibility is central to our mission at The Wee Red Car. We ensure that the vehicle is fitted with the appropriate adaptations to cater to various disabilities. With a range of options available, we work closely with our students to find the most suitable options, thereby enhancing their driving experience and ensuring comfort and safety. If the necessary apdaptations are not available then advice on how to proceed with a specialised vehicle will be offered.
